About Cynthia Griffith

I have way too many interests and hobbies, and continually cycle through them -- paying attention to some, while others wait for when I can get around to them again. My main interests are sewing and costuming (I enjoy historical clothing, such as 18th and 19th century, as well as fantasy costumes like elves and hopefully someday even dwarves), as well as getting back to art by drawing fan art of Thorin Oakenshield and Company. My husband Christopher and I spend a lot of time together, enjoying the outdoors and shared hobbies such as juggling. This blog and website is my way to share what I'm up to with friends and family.

My husband’s surprise birthday gift to me

This past Sunday, Halloween, was my birthday.  It was a great day, despite a few folks feeling under the weather.  I received many thoughtful gifts and wonderful donations of cash to help keep me sewing!  I thought one gift, in … Continue reading

My first 18th century stays are finished!

It unfortunately took me a while to finish my stays due to various reasons (travel and conferences, researching and decision-making, and mental health breaks), but I’m very pleased with how they turned out!  As usual, I’m hoping they last for … Continue reading

My husband’s first podcast is online!

I talk a lot about my husband, Christopher Gronlund, on this blog.  He means so much to me, obviously! I’ll be mentioning him a little more.  He just started getting into podcasts.  He has a few others planned — especially … Continue reading

Working on the website, and wondering about Akismet

Christopher and I have been sick for just over a week, so I took the time to do some work on my site instead of sewing. I’ve made a lot of behind-the-scenes changes, and I’m now starting to add a … Continue reading

It All Adds Up

It occurred to me recently, when I was looking at supplies I needed to buy for sewing, just how quickly the money adds up with a hobby like this. The problem with sewing is that many people don’t realize what … Continue reading

18th Century Stays — Getting Closer

I’m currently sewing the binding on the tabs of my stays.  I’ve read people complaining about what a chore sewing the binding on the tabs is.  They’re not kidding!  I’d actually read a tip or two that mentioned you might … Continue reading

Working Through Down Times

I mentioned in my last entry that I was having trouble focusing on any of my projects.  With worrying about the job situation, it’s hard to honestly care about anything else — even things that bring me so much happiness.  … Continue reading

Laid Off Again

Sorry my sewing entries have slowed down again — there hasn’t been much going on project-wise.  My stays are close to being finished, but I admit I’ve not been focused enough to work on them.  I’d been very annoyed with … Continue reading

Happy Birthday to The Juggling Writer!

I just wanted to wish my husband a congratulations on his blog, The Juggling Writer, being a year old today!  He’s put a lot of work into it, and although the main focus is for writers who have trouble juggling … Continue reading

Working Dates

Originally, I wasn’t planning on having a blog be the main part of my new website.  Once I decided to give it a try, I was nervous that I wouldn’t be able to figure out enough interesting topics to write … Continue reading
